Uteach vs. Kajabi

If you are trying to find the best course creation platform to succeed in today’s competitive market, this article is for you.

We are saving your time on research and cover lots of comparisons in a series of articles. Now, it is time to compare Uteach vs. Kajabi.

So, if you are ready, let’s start!

What are Uteach and Kajabi?

Uteach

Uteach is a wonderful platform that allows startups and independent teachers to create online courses without putting together their own websites from scratch. Basically, it allows you to monetize your business, turning your knowledge and skills into income.

Uteach allows you to build a website for your course by selling different products, having your own blog on your website, and, most importantly, providing your students with a mobile app with a responsive design. Focussing mainly on video courses, Uteach provides all types of content files and automatized learning. Uteach has its own blog that acts both as documentation of the platform use and as a way of informing its users about the online teaching business.

Kajabi

Kajabi is essentially the same thing — another platform for online course creation. It already provides more than 100,000 creators with a place for their course hosting and growing. It’s a good place to start when you have your skills and knowledge and want to monetize them. The main function of the platform is educational, and likewise, it educates its users, too.

Kajabi University is a part of the Kajabi family that gives you — the teacher — opportunities to learn and develop essential skills for your business, promoting and developing your online school.

Choosing platform

Factors you need to consider

In order to describe the platforms better, we are going to break them down into a few factor categories. There are several things that are essential in an online educational platform that is created to host content from independent teachers.

These features can be divided into content-related and marketing-related, and we will discuss the subcategories down below. Also, this is a nice way of comparing the two platforms that feature in today’s article. Besides essential features, we are going to look at additional functions and see how useful they are for making your course more successful and your working process more effective.

Course builder

The most important factor in a platform for online course making is the course builder, of course. That is the most essential reason for choosing a platform. If the builder is inconvenient for you, then what’s the point of using the platform?

Builder opportunities

The first thing is your builder’s limitations. How much freedom does a platform allow you to have? This can reflect in the storage capacity of your website and the number of students, courses, and teammates that you can have. Let’s see what Uteach and Kajabi do in that sense.

Uteach

The first thing you need to know about Uteach is that it is as user-friendly and beginner-friendly as possible. The interface in its design doesn’t distract the creator (you), so you can work in a flow. At the same time, it’s pretty enough to enjoy working on it. Other features of the builder include unlimited storage, students, and courses. Depending on your subscription plan, you can have from one to five to twenty teammates.

Kajabi

Kajabi’s website builder provides you with a centralized system for hosting all of your courses. There are limitations to your number of courses depending on your subscription plan. For the Basic, you can have up to 1000 active users, 3 products, and one admin user. For the Growth, you can have 10000 active members, 15 products, and 10 admin users. For Pro, it’s 20000 active users, 100 products, and 25 admin users.

Quite limited, if we may say.

Templates

The convenience of the builder includes the availability of templates and how much you can customize them. This allows you to add your course content to the website without thinking too much about the structure and, at the same time, to put it in a way that is suitable for you and your students.

Uteach

You get a website builder with one template for the free plan. Otherwise, you get a lot of templates and can edit them as you please, adding pictures, changing colors, and playing with widgets.

Kajabi

Kajabi has the Robust theme Framework, a theme, and template with many ready widgets and sections. You can customize your SIte Theme, Page Theme, and Product theme. But, you have to pay for it additionally — $149 (although it is only a one-time payment, not something subscription-based).

Uteach Templates

Digital products

The amount of digital product types is important. Many topics that tutors choose to cover require a few types of digital products. For example, one subject may need both videos and PDFs for the most effective studying. Therefore, a good platform should allow you to upload at least three types of digital products: one video format (e.g., .mkv), one image format (.jpg), and one document format (.pdf).

Uteach

Digital products on Uteach cover many fields, including videos, images of all types, PDFs, Word Documents, PowerPoint presentations, and whatever else you can think of.

Kajabi

Kajabi allows you to sell many digital products, including courses, eBooks, images, audio materials, data, software programs, and coaching packages. Therefore, it is easy to say that Kajabi allows you to upload and sell all types of digital products that we outlined above.

Physical products

Uteach

Uteach, among other products, offers you to have offline webinars that your students can buy if the location isn’t a problem. The way Uteach portrays it shows how it appreciates both online and offline education.

Kajabi

You can sell physical products with Kajabi using Shopify’s buy button or Zapier. It is not an internalized function, so you have to maneuver in third-party integration settings, but still — it is quite possible.

Choosing a product

Automation

This category talks about how your website enhances your studying experience, allowing you to spend less time on the structure of something and more time on the quality of your content.

Live lessons

Live lessons are very important for certain types of subjects, for example, yoga workshops. You want to have an opportunity to host a live lesson session on your tutoring website, and it should work without glitches.

Uteach

It is possible to host live sessions on Uteach via third-party integrations like Zoom or InSpace. You can reschedule your online sessions with your students (all of them or tête-à-tête) and customize the description. With Uteach you will get end-to-end live lesson automation, that does not offer any platform.

Kajabi

Creating a live lesson (usually in the form of an asynchronous broadcast) involves a lot of work with code formatting since you have to use YouTube events for that. But, again, it is quite possible to do so, although it requires a lot of fussing around.

Quizzes

Quizzes are old as education itself. They are a tried method of checking your students’ knowledge, skills, and understanding. Not only will you examine what they learned, but you will also understand what part of your course is less understandable.

Thus, you can correct it and improve it somehow. Online quizzes are as effective as traditional ones, and although you can send your students a link to Google Forms, you would want to have an opportunity to host quizzes directly from your website. Although Google Forms are quite helpful, they may not be as customizable as quiz forms designed specifically for teaching websites. Regardless, let’s have a look at what Uteach and Kajabi do:

Uteach

Designing quizzes on Uteach is possible and welcome. Just like everything on this website, it is highly customizable. You can add different types of questions, choose the checking type and add different media files to the quizzes. You can place your quizzes wherever you want throughout the course and use any number of quizzes in the course.

Kajabi

You can design assessment-oriented lessons on Kajabi, so quizzes are separate from other lessons, like special exam days. But, your students will get the grades automatically, and you will see the stats of how good they’re doing on your course.

Certification

Certification is as important as quizzes. This type of assessment allows you to grade your students and motivate them for further education. Essentially, you make them like you more since you did something pleasant for them, and therefore it’s more likely that they will stick till the end of your course and maybe take another one.

Uteach

You can create different types of certificates on Uteach, which is very customizable. Your students can download the certificates in PDF format.

Kajabi

On Kajabi, you can automatically create certificates and badges and email them to your students automatically as well.

Third-party integrations

Sometimes the most effective way of implementing a certain feature to a website is to integrate an already ready platform into it. Why reinvent the wheel if you can get one through a partnership? The same applies to educational platforms. Sometimes, instead of creating their own video-hosting platform, they can partner with Zoom, which everyone already uses. The benefits are infinite.

Uteach

There are a few types of third-party integrations that Uteach has, and each one of them has different platforms. Most popular include:

  • Video-meeting apps like Zoom, Jitsi, InSpace, and other
  • Marketplace partnerships include (but are not limited to) Mailchimp and Email Software
  • Google Products like Google Analytics and Google Search Console
  • Other platforms like Zapier, Facebook Pixel, Pipedrive, etc.

Kajabi

Integrations on Kajabi are divided into three, a bit different from Uteach’s categories:

  • Email third parties include Aweber, Mailchimp, Drip, and others.
  • Analytics including Google Analytics and Facebook Pixel
  • Zapier and ClickFunnels for lead marketing

We can say that third-party integrations on Kajabi are quite similar to those on Uteach still.

Integrate platforms

Branding

Branding is very important for a business. Having a product with your own brand label allows you to establish your brand name and increase your profit margin. People trust you more and think that you are more professional, which on its own increases the success of your business.

White Labeling

The first and essential part of branding is white labeling. Basically, you use another platform to host your content, but you get to erase their labels and put your own instead. Thus, your customer thinks that you made it all yourself, and you get the above-described benefits. Your provider gets additional money that you pay them for white labeling.

Uteach

On Uteach, you can white label only if you have Pro or Business membership, but you can white-label your website fully, including emails, courses, assessments, footers of your landing page, etc. Therefore, your student will not have a clue that you use a third-party platform for white labeling.

Kajabi

You can remove Kajabi branding from your website and fully make it your own too.

Custom domain

Custom domain is technically a part of white labeling, too. When you use another platform for your course, your domain name usually looks like your_brand_name.the_platform’s_name.com. If the platform allows you that, you can erase its name from the domain and put just your domain name. Can you do that on today’s platforms?

Uteach

If you want to fully white-label your website on Uteach, you can, apart from other things, customize your domain, fully eliminating “Uteach” from your pages. All you need to do is to get your own domain name fixed and have a Basic Uteach subscription.

Kajabi

You can connect a custom domain to Kajabi, which also includes creating a subdomain and connecting it to your Kajabi account.

Marketing opportunities

Remember that everything you do is in order to sell your courses — it’s business. In order to sell more and get more income, you need smart marketing. With e-commerce, there are a few types of things you can employ in order to promote your business.

Blog

So first, we have blogs. If you can write a blog about yourself and your business, you provide more insight to your readers. They sympathize with you and like you more, increasing their chances of becoming your customers. Besides, you can allure them with descriptions of your courses. Giving a bit of information about your courses can make them understand whether they need the content or not.

Uteach

Uteach allows you to create your own blogs. Your blog will be part of your online teaching website and enable you to promote your courses further.

Kajabi

Kajabi offers you the opportunity to create your own blogs too.

SEO

In order to make your course more visible in Google, Safari, and other browsers of all kinds, you need to optimize every part of your website for said search engines. The essential part of SEO is that the provider platform is optimized itself. It also must provide you with tools to optimize your content for it to rank high in search engines.

Uteach

Uteach provides you with instruments to make your own website on Uteach optimal for search engines. It has its own internal tool for optimization, but third-party integrations such as Google Analytics allow you to rank higher in search engines.

Kajabi

When you create a website on Kajabi, it already comes with more or less optimized pages, but you can further optimize it for search engines using tools that Kajabi provides (including a detailed article on their blog).

Student coupons

Another instrument of marketing is to make your course look accessible, which is done by discounts — student coupons. If you do it smartly, for example, make discounts last till the end of the month and send email notifications to your customers, you will create the fear of missing out. This will make them want your course more than they actually need it and buy it quicker.

Uteach

You can offer student coupons. For example, you can set student coupons for those who are new or for those who participate in your course pre-selling.

Kajabi

Kajabi allows you to create student coupons for your sales. Coupons on Kajabi are highly customizable, and you can create many of them. Coupons can be used in a single way or in bulks.

Pipelines

Pipeline marketing is important for keeping your old customers and making them buy more and more. For that, you need to build some trust between your company and them. Let’s see what tools these two platforms provide you for pipelines.

Uteach

Uteach provides you with many instruments that you can use for pipeline marketing and membership websites, and your own blog is a big part of this strategy. Assessments are another thing here: certifications definitely help you with keeping old customers afloat.

Kajabi

Kajabi allows you to have automated marketing tools that automate the process of sales creation. You can create your own pipelines and use different numbers of funnels according to your subscription plan. So, the Basic plan includes up to 3 pipelines, Growth up to 15, and Pro up to 100 (see more on that down below).

Pricing

Uteach

Uteach provides you with four types of subscriptions, including one free subscription. Every other one is paid but has a 14-day free trial. Let’s have a look at it:

  • Free plan. Via a free plan, you can create three courses in total but have an unlimited number of students on them. You get the default template that is not remarkably customizable, and you have to pay a 7% fee for a one-course sale. It is not the most convenient thing, but it is technically possible to create a course.
  • Basic subscription. The basic subscription comes for $29/mo if paid annually. Otherwise, it is $39, in the case of it being paid monthly. You can create an unlimited number of courses and students (without any transaction fees) and unlimited storage, too! Plus, you get the custom domain’s availability, third-party integrations, and more.
  • Pro plan. The Pro plan is the most popular one and will cost you $79/mo (or $99/mo). It includes everything from basic, but instead of one admin, you can have 5. You get all the assessments, including quizzes and certificates, plus data integration, full white labeling, live lessons, more third-party integrations, and access to your own App.
  • Business subscription costs $199/mo ($249/mo) and includes everything that the Pro plan has, but 20 admins instead of 5. Besides, you get priority support and a personal manager.

Kajabi

Although Kajabi gives a 14-day free trial for every paid plan, it doesn’t have a whole free plan. All plans include:

  • Basic $119/mo if paid annually or $149/mo. It includes 3 products and pipelines, but unlimited landing pages and marketing emails. It is created for one website and 1 admin user. You also get all the assessments and the Kajabi University.
  • Growth $159/mo (or $199/mo) provides you with all that Basic subscription, plus 15 products and pipelines and ten admins for one website.
  • Pro $319/mo (or $399/mo). Pro allows you to have 100 products and pipelines and 25 admin users for three websites.

Use cases

Kajabi is a nice place if you already have a bit of experience and money since it is quite expensive. Uteach is good for either, but especially if you are just starting, since it is very cheap and has a free full-working plan. It is a perfect place for a beginner who literally never made an online course ever; consider the previous point: Uteach is very cheap.

Kajabi:

So, if you are an online coach who needs to have an e-learning platform that works just fine and does not really care about advanced functionality, Kajabi is the way to go.

Uteach:

At the same time, if you are an online coach/course creator who wants to have a full-features e-learning platform with automation that performs perfectly, and is still affordable, then Uteach is an obvious choice.

Uteach vs Kajabi

Uteach: The best online course platform for you

As seen from the comparison, Uteach is the best platform for you. It is more affordable, easier to use, has more functions applicable to the job, etc. Uteach’s blog provides you with the most meticulously detailed documentation that gives you the key to all of the platform’s functions. Besides, it also gives you advice on promoting your online schooling business and monetizing your knowledge.

The most popular and useful subscription plan for you is Pro for $79-99/mo. It provides you with all the tools you need as a startup and a professional (Business plan is for bigger corporations). But, the subscription on Kajabi that allows you to create a working and successful course is Growth which costs twice as much as Uteach’s Pro. Make your choice carefully; all we can say is that Uteach is the ultimate platform for you.
