FAQ

How are chargebacks handled with PayPal?

PayPal does manage chargebacks directly. This is handled by the buyer's credit card issuer. Consequently, the process is governed by the issuer's rules. Also, PayPal does not determine the validity of a chargeback. What PayPal does is gather transaction details and help you communicate with the card issuer to resolve the chargeback.

Key things to remember:

  • You have ten days to respond if you receive a chargeback.
  • Buyers can initiate chargebacks 180 days or more after the order date.
  • Chargebacks are typically resolved within a few weeks. However, it can sometimes take up to 75 days or more.
