10 Best AI Assistant Tools Every Educator Needs | Free Edition

There are countless options when it comes to AI tools in education, all promising to revolutionize your teaching life. But somehow you still end up staring at the same old lesson plan template.

Here is the thing. When you finally find an AI tool that fits your teaching workflow like your favorite classroom mug fits your hand, everything changes. According to a RAND survey, 22 percent of AI-using teachers employ AI tools to support administrative tasks such as automating or assisting with grading, attendance tracking, and report generation. That means less time buried under paperwork and more time spent with your students. Or maybe even finishing that cup of coffee before it goes cold.

AI tools can help you write quizzes, draft reports, track learning progress, generate lesson plans, and even translate content for multilingual classrooms. Of course, you can always ask ChatGPT to help with just about everything. But often, specialized tools that are trained to follow learning standards and pedagogical best practices simply do the job better.

For this article, I selected tools that I used back in my English language classroom, along with others I discovered while researching the best solutions to ease the load of teaching. Every tool on this list is either free or offers a free version, so you can try them right away and see what fits.

To find more AI tools for your courses and lessons, I recommend downloading these free guides that the Uteach team created.

In the table below, you will find a quick overview of the top AI assistant tools every educator should know about.

Eduaide AI

Eduaide.AI is an AI assistant built for teachers to help with lesson planning, activity creation, and content generation. You can use it to write learning objectives, generate ideas for classroom activities, and create assessments or discussion prompts. It saves time when you need quick drafts or inspiration while designing your lessons․

Especially, if you work in fields such as science, math, ELA, social studies, and CTEs, you will find the tool particularly useful.

What can you do with Eduaide AI?

  • Create unit plans, slides, worksheets, and leveled readings tailored to your subject and grade level
  • Use templates like the 5E Lesson Plan or Backward Design Organizer for structured instruction
  • Adapt content for diverse learners (e.g., simplify texts, scaffold tasks)
  • Build quizzes (multiple-choice, short answer) and rubrics
  • Design interactive activities like SPARK Lessons (real-world problem-solving) or vocabulary activities
  • Auto-grade assignments and generate progress reports
  • What I like about this tool

What is great about Eduaide AI is that it already has the pedagogical frameworks and teaching models built in. This means that you do not have to specify that in the prompt. For example, you can generate the activity using the Universal Design for Learning.

Another great option is the Feedback bot. Here, you upload the student’s assignment without their personal information, and it generates the feedback automatically. There is an opportunity to mention what you want the bot to leave feedback on, such as grammar, typography, etc.

Pricing

With the free version of the tool, you can generate 20 resources per month. But it also limits the length of the input. If you need to generate an unlimited number of resources, consider getting the paid options, which go as follows:

  • $5.99/month Eduaide Pro
  • Custom solution

Teachology AI

Teachology AI is a platform designed to help with creating dynamic lesson plans, assessments, and course materials quickly. It uses artificial intelligence to automate content generation, personalize learning experiences, and streamline administrative tasks like grading and feedback. The content you generate with Teachology aligns with educational standards and teaching best practices.

Teachology AI focuses specifically on K-12 and higher education and offers structured templates for lessons, quizzes, and unit plans.

What can you do with Teachology AI?

  • Input a topic, grade level, and learning objectives, and the AI drafts a full lesson plan with activities, resources, and assessments.
  • Automatically generate quizzes, tests, and rubrics aligned with lesson objectives.
  • Break down curricula into weekly or unit-based structures with integrated lessons
  • Use AI to generate rubric-aligned feedback on student work
  • Download materials in Word, PDF, or JSON for LMS integration or printouts.
  • Generate educational materials that align with the standard outcomes.

Pricing

The tool offers a free plan, which comes with limitations. You can only create 2 lesson plans or assessments. If you need unlimited resources, you can start with the Pro or the Custom plans. However, the tool reached its capacity. At the moment, you cannot access the platforms because they are at capacity, and it puts you on the waitlist.

  • $12/month Pro
  • Custom pricing

MagicSchool for Educators

MagicSchool gives you a full toolkit (80+ tools) in one platform, so you can build materials, support students, and communicate more effectively, without having to write prompts. It has ready-made, standards-aligned lesson plans, rubrics, worksheets, assessments, and communication drafts.

The tool also integrates with Google Classroom, Docs, Canvas, and more to streamline your workflow.

What can you do with MagicSchool?

  • Generate lesson plans tailored to your subject, grade, or standards
  • Create assessments and quizzes, multiple‑choice or otherwise, aligned to the curriculum
  • Build rubrics and feedback tools for assignments and report card comments
  • Draft professional emails, newsletters, behavior plans, IEPs, and more
  • Use custom chatbots or ‘Raina’ to help students with tutoring, study practice, or Q&A sessions
  • Build class or subject-specific bots (e.g., a tutor for photosynthesis), and students interact via dedicated “rooms.
  • What I like about MagicSchool

Out of all the teacher tools I tried, I particularly liked the question generator tool from YouTube. If your main educational materials are video-based, it provides an excellent opportunity to create quizzes that align with the video quickly. All you need to mention is the grade level, number, and types of questions.

Another great thing about MagicScool is that it integrates with Microsoft and Google tools, and with 2 LMS solutions. That means less copy-pasting and more streamlined lesson delivery, right from where you already work.

Pricing

MagicSchool offers solutions for educators and enterprises. With the free version, you can access the 80+ tools for teachers, plus presentation and image generators. If you need to generate an unlimited number of resources, you can do it with the Plus plan. The pricing is $99.96/year.

Brisk Teaching

Brisk Teaching is a free AI-powered Chrome extension that works with tools you already use, like Google Docs, Slides, Forms, YouTube, and any web page. It helps generate materials, such as lesson plans, quizzes, presentations, and rubrics, directly in your workspace, and it supports personalized feedback, text-level adjustment, and writing audits.

The tool gives live, inline feedback on student work, shows revision playback for academic honesty checks, and adjusts content reading levels for diverse learners.

What can you do with Brisk Teaching?

  • Create instructional content like lesson plans, presentations, quizzes, IEPs, MTSS support resources, emails, newsletters, and more.
  • Provide feedback with different modes such as Glows & Grows, Targeted comments (rubric-aligned), Rubric Criteria, and Next Steps using Google Docs.
  • Watch a replay of the student’s editing history, including revisions and pasted content
  • Convert web articles, documents, and slides to different reading levels
  • Automatically generate quizzes (Google Forms or Docs), rubrics, and DOK-based questions aligned to standards
  • What I like about this tool

Brisk Teaching is an extension, meaning that you do not have to deal with a different platform every time you want to work on an educational resource. It is already in your workflow. Let’s say you were watching a YouTube video, and you want to create a quiz for a specific grade. You can do so without leaving the video page. Or when you need to write feedback in a Google document, you can do so with the AI feedback tool. Even if the outcomes are not always the best, the tool provides a great starting point you can rely on.

You can paste in or upload any text, URL, PDF, or even a YouTube transcript, and it will produce multiple versions ranging from 2nd grade to advanced levels.

It also creates vocabulary lists, comprehension questions, discussion prompts, summaries, and even graphic-organizer worksheets. You can export them to Google Docs, Slides, Forms, or PDFs.

The AI cites real sources when generating new informational texts, which helps maintain accuracy.

What can you do with Diffit?

  • Generate leveled versions of any content, from articles to transcripts
  • Produce vocabulary lists with definitions used in context for easier student comprehension
  • Create a variety of question types, including multiple‑choice, short‑answer, and open‑ended
  • Access premade templates like graphic organizers, 3‑2‑1 summaries, and worksheets that you can download or share
  • Generate entirely new, standards-aligned informational or narrative texts
  • What I like about this tool

If you teach languages or other school subjects, you will find Diffit especially useful. It can create reading passages with questions, summaries, and vocabulary lists. And when you generate the text (from articles, YouTube, PDFs, etc), you can turn that into a learning activity. The activity resources are ready-made, so you can choose anything like maps, workbooks, vocabulary slides, etc.

You can use Diffit for Teachers completely free and without limitations.

  • What I like about Teachmate AI

The tool tailors outputs to educational contexts, such as generating curriculum-aligned reports in both formal and informal tones, or creating differentiated resources. The tool also provides opportunities to generate the students' reports. You know how much time it usually takes to prepare a report for each student’s performance. Teachmate AI has a tool to automate that process, too.

Pricing

Free tools by Teachhme AI include concept explainer, activity idea generator, jingle generator, report writer, etc. To access the advanced tools, you should choose any of the 3 plans, including

Goblin Tools

Goblin Tools is a free, web‑based AI suite (with optional low‑cost mobile apps) made up of six simple, single‑task helpers. It helps you or your students organize tasks, adjust writing tone, estimate completion time, clarify thoughts, and act the role you choose for it. You can set it to be a judge, professor, consultant, estimator, compiler, chef, etc.

What can you do with Goblin Tools?

  • Type in a task and get a step‑by‑step plan with an estimated time for each part
  • Paste a brain dump and get a structured to‑do list instantly
  • Rewrite messages in different tones (formal, casual, polite, snarky) and analyze someone’s tone
  • What I like about this tool

There is no specific use case for Goblin Tools, but it comes in handy with a variety of tasks. You will find it particularly useful if you do lots of writing activities, idea structuring, and organizing. For example, you can use the tool to create a structure for your lesson topic.

It’s also great for neurodivergent learners who benefit from step-by-step thinking and tone adjustments. It breaks down the process into multiple sub-steps, which become individual lessons themselves. Another way to use it is when you weigh down the pros and cons of something. You can lean into your imagination and create various activities.

Goblin Tools is completely free, and there are no limitations on what you generate.

  • What I like about this tool

Classroomscreen simplifies classroom routines and transitions and adds small interactive touches that keep students on task. It has 125+ templates for activities. If you are used to introducing fun and engagement into your virtual classroom, you will love the activity games.

It also has widgets to track the activities, such as timers, drawing tools, random pickers, noise meters, media embeds, etc.

Gradescope

Gradescope is a platform designed to streamline grading for handwritten, digital, and coding assignments. It supports everything from bubble-sheet quizzes and handwritten exams to programming projects and online assessments.

You set up rubrics, scan or upload student submissions, and the tool organizes answers by question rather than by student.

What can you do with Gradescope?

  • Scan and upload tests or homework; highlight answer boxes, and use dynamic rubrics to annotate and score.
  • Automatically group similar student responses for faster rubric application on bubble-sheet, fill-in, and short-answer questions.
  • Allow teams to grade different questions in parallel.
  • Publish grades with one click, sync with LMS, and handle regrade requests
  • See the assignment
  • What I like about Gradescope

The tool supports different types of assignments, such as fixed-template exams, variable-length homework, bubble sheets, coding assignments, and online assessments. For structured responses, Gradescope can cluster similar answers so you grade one exemplar and apply it to the group.

There is an opportunity to grade assignments with other instructors. You can work on the same assignment without overlap.

Pricing

Gradescope suggests starting with the free trial. After the free trial is over, you can continue using their Basic plan for free.
