7 Best Platforms to Sell Digital Products Tested & Reviewed

While selling digital products is one of the easiest ways to start an online business, choosing where to sell them is where most people get stuck. Marketplaces, storefront builders, course platforms, and delivery tools- there are so many options.

That is why I tested dozens of platforms to find out which ones actually help creators grow, not just upload files and hope for the best.

In this guide, you will find seven platforms I handpicked from dozens. For each one, I share what makes it stand out, what opportunities you have to create, market, sell, and track.

I also included real user reviews to give you a more objective look. Keep reading for a side-by-side look at the top platforms each evaluated on what matters most․

How I chose the platforms for the list of the best

There are hundreds of platforms you can use to sell your digital products. Some of them are marketplaces, where they usually charge commissions on each sale you make. Others are LMS solutions or course management platforms that come with digital product options built in. And all those platforms have different focuses.

How can you choose one that fits your needs? The criteria below are what I used to narrow down my list of 30 platforms to create and sell digital products to only 7.

  • Opportunities to scale. Some platforms limit the number of digital products you can upload, the storage space, or the types of files you can sell. I included the platforms that allow you to grow without hitting those walls too quickly.
  • Selling is more than uploading a file. It is important that the platform supports direct sales and has features that help you boost conversions. Some platforms are only focused on delivering files, but I think we need more than that.
  • Analytics and insights, as you cannot improve what you cannot measure.
  • Since we are dealing with digital files, it is essential to have secure delivery. I checked whether the platform offers protection against unauthorized downloads, download limits, license keys, and smooth access for customers after purchase.

I also chose to eliminate large marketplaces and general store builders like Etsy, Shopify, and similar platforms. While they are popular and widely used, they are also heavily saturated and competitive.

My goal was to find platforms that are ready-to-use, focused on digital sales, and do not require extra tools and plugins to function properly.

Considering all that, here is a quick overview of the best 7 platforms to create and sell digital downloads.

Uteach

Uteach is an all-in-one platform where you can create and sell digital downloads, physical products, coaching, online courses, memberships, and much more. If you intend to create a website for your store with your own branding and customize the whole student experience, then this is the way to go.

As you upload your digital product, you can add it to categories. So when your students browse your pages, they can filter and find them easily. Your products can be URL links or just different formats of files you upload.

What is great about Uteach is the way you promote your digital products. For each product page you create, Uteach gives you the opportunity to fill in the SEO details and metadata for your customers to find them more easily on search results pages. Yet, you can use other channels as well. For example, the ready-made email templates

There are lots of opportunities to customize the pre-checkout and after-checkout experiences. So, you can set up a post-purchase redirect link and encourage your customers to take your desired action.

After you publish, this is what your products can look like on your website.

From your dashboard, you can access analytics on recent sales, revenue, sold resources, and much more.

But what is more important is that you have lots of options when it comes to accepting payments. Uteach offers a lot more than just Stripe and PayPal. So, you can choose the payment method that works best in your region.

What do other users think about Uteach

In an interview with me, Angel Rodriguez, who is the founder of Alliance Training and Testing, shared the following about his experience with Uteach.

“I've used other popular platforms. I've used at least 5 of them, and I can tell you that Uteach is by far my favorite. One of the biggest things for me that brought me to Uteach was the ability to blog right there on the site. That is a huge difference-maker. A lot of the other platforms don't offer that at all, and the social aspect is the way that you bring your customers into your particular online course that you're trying to create.”

Pricing

With Uteach, you do not have any limits on the number of products you can create or the amount of sales you can make. Plus, all the features you need to run your business are included in all plans. Uteach does not force upgrades just so you can sell more products. It is just a matter of preference whether you want to pay a fixed price or pay commissions for sales.

Payhip

If you want to start selling digital products fast without too many technical setups, Payhip is one of the smoothest and most beginner-friendly options I have encountered.

Payhip is a platform designed for creators who want to sell digital products, courses, coaching services, memberships, bundles, or even physical items. It gives you a hosted storefront, so you do not need to build a separate website if you do not want to. But you can also use your own domain

Creating the products was easy as well, as you needed to insert the basic information your store needs, like the product name, description, and price. What is great is that you can create categories to showcase your digital products.

And when it comes to safety measures, you can limit the number of downloads or use PDF stamping so that the buyer’s details show on all the pages of your documents.

In terms of marketing your products, Payhip lets you offer discount codes, run affiliate programs, create product bundles, and cross-sell your products. You can also encourage people to subscribe and set up mailing lists. For that, Payhip offers connecting with your email service provider via API.

Analytics is not one of the best, but you can have an overview of your sales, customers, orders, plus how many times people say your digital product.

What do other users think

The platform has a rating of 4.3 stars on one of the review platforms, Capterra. Users love Payhip’s ease of use, free tier with full features, and affordability. They praise its clean storefronts, VAT handling, and affiliate programs. Some users desired direct bank payouts instead of relying on PayPal.

Reviewers think Payhip is great for beginners, but growing businesses may need more advanced features. Here is an example review.

Pricing

What is great about Payhip pricing is that all features are included in all plans. And there is a free version available with only 5% transaction fees. If you do not want to pay transaction fees per sale, you can start on the Pro plan at $99/month.

In short

The store is simple and quick to set up, and the dashboard feels clean and intuitive. If you are someone who wants a very custom look and feel, Payhip would NOT deliver that. Another small inconvenience is that you can accept payments only with PayPal or Stripe. Yet, if you want something quick and easy, the platform does the job.

Digital Product Delivery

If you are looking for a platform that is focused purely on professional digital file and product delivery without distractions, DPD is one of the tools to consider.

Digital Product Delivery is an eBook publishing platform where you can create multiple stores and host digital products of any size. And if you sell physical products, like the printed copies of your files, stickers, etc, DPD also delivers them.

Here you can also sell movies, games, themes, your merch, etc.

And if you already have a website, you can copy the buy button code and embed it into your website. The platform provides opportunities to customize your store, as you can

  • Edit themes for the checkout experience
  • Add your store logo
  • Customize which card fields you want to show
  • Add marketing opt-ins, etc.

However, the design options you have with the store are a little old-fashioned.

To successfully market and sell your digital products, you can set up an affiliate program, use upsells, and cross-sells. There is also an opportunity to send a download link to your preferred email address. What I find great is that you can show a different price on your website, but if you need a special price for a specific group of people, you can manage that as well.

To keep the digital product secure, the platforms let you control the number of downloads and use stamps on your PDF files.

Another great thing is that DPD has strong reporting and analytics functionality. Besides keeping track of your general sales, you can generate custom reports for VAT, taxes, usage of coupons, etc.

What users think

DPD has a rating of 4.1 stars on a review platform called Knoji. Yet, there was only one review on G2. It highlights robust features, though they noted difficulty accessing their account on a smartphone.

Pricing

The pricing you have with Digital Product Delivery all depends on the size of your products and the number. For example, with $10/month, you get 1GB of storage for 20 products. The maximum storage is 174 GB.

In short

If your priority is securely selling and delivering digital files and you do not need all the extra features that come with course platforms, DPD is a strong option. Yet the visual design of the storefront is very minimal and not modern-looking. The best thing is that the platform does not charge transaction fees, and the prices are fixed.

Podia

If you are looking for an all-in-one platform where digital products, courses, and community, Podia is a creator-friendly solution.

Podia is an all-in-one platform built for creators who want to sell digital products, online courses, memberships, and webinars, all under one roof. You can create a full website with product pages, sales pages, and even blog posts.

Creating a product is just like on any other platform, where you upload the file, mention the details, and set the pricing & availability.

One of the things I like about Podia is that you have flexible options when it comes to pricing. So, besides making it free or paid, you can also create waitlists. Which is great if you need to collect emails for your marketing campaigns, or you need to promote an upsell.

Speaking of promoting, Podia offers different opportunities for that, too. And if email marketing is one of your main channels, with Podia, you can find advanced email marketing tools. For example, create email campaigns, schedule newsletters, and tag people based on their activity.

There are also upsells, coupons, product bundles, and a sales page builder that lets you customize the messaging for each product.

What do other users think

On Capterra, Podia has an average rating of 4.6 stars.

According to users, key pros include easy setup, integrated tools (website builder, email campaigns), and VAT handling. However, users note limited customization for checkout/landing pages, and no native mobile app. Other reviewers wished there were strong analytics.

Here is an example review.

Pricing

Podia offers 3 main pricing options, and depending on the plan, you will get a different set of features. The Mover plan comes with a 5% transaction fee. The great thing is that the platform does not limit the number of digital products you can sell.

In short

For someone who prefers simplicity, Podia is a great choice. It offers flexible options in the variety of digital downloads you can create and sell.

You can easily offer related products at checkout or bundle several files together, which helps increase order value. If you want to sell other products besides digital downloads and build your customizable website, you can easily do so. However, if branding is important for your business, you will not be able to remove Podia’s branding completely from your site.

Sellfy

If you want to launch fast and sell your digital products without building an entire website from scratch, Sellfy gives you a simple storefront that is ready to use right away.

On Sellfy, you can mainly sell digital downloads, subscriptions, physical products, and print-on-demand products. Once you create your account, you can see a simple checklist that guides you through adding the products, customizing the store, and other essential details.

In my case, I selected the digital products option, which allows uploading up to 50 files at once. As you add the details, you can also create categories and organize your digital downloads into categories.

In terms of pricing, one of the most interesting options is the Pay What You Want functionality, where you can also set the minimum price. Similar to eCommerce stores, here you can also set different variants of your digital product and set a different price if necessary.

Though there are not many customization options for your store, there are still opportunities to personalize the user experience. For example, you can set which fields you want to show to the customer during the checkout.

Like with the other platforms to sell digital products, with Sellfy, you also have affiliate marketing, discounts, and upsells. One promotional channel that stands out is the SEO functionality, where you can fill in the metadata so people can discover your products easily.

Not very recently, but they also added an opportunity to collect reviews from the customers and show them on your digital product pages.

In terms of analytics, Sellfy is also one of the best. You can track your revenue, purchases, conversions, and see which products perform better. As I mentioned, the platform has a focus on SEO, too, and the analytics dashboard shows the traffic sources and website, and the main locations, too.

What do other users think

On Capterra, Sellfy has a review of 4.5 stars on average with 32 reviews.

Sellfy users praise its ease of setup, intuitive dashboard, and reliable digital product delivery, with many highlighting seamless integration, embedded storefronts, and effective marketing tools (discounts, email campaigns, analytics).

According to the reviewers, key drawbacks include limited payment options, revenue caps on higher plans, and the lack of advanced customization (e.g., fonts, landing pages).

Here is an example review.

Pricing

Sellfy offers 3 main pricing plans, and it is the most expensive platform to sell digital downloads on our list of the best seven.

Though they do not limit the number of products you can create or the storage, they limit the revenue for each plan. One advantage is that the first plan has all the key features to create and sell digital products.

In short

Sellfy is a solid choice if you want to start selling digital products quickly without building an entire website from the ground up. It gives you a ready-to-use storefront where you can sell digital downloads, subscriptions, and even physical or print-on-demand items. You have lots of opportunities to successfully market your digital products. Yet, you should be ready to pay a good amount for all that.

Gumroad

Gumroad is one of the most popular platforms and marketplaces among anyone who has ever thought about selling digital downloads.

Gumroad is for creators who want to sell digital downloads, bundles, and courses. You can customize your product pages, share direct links, or embed your products into an existing site. With that being said, Gumroad keeps everything minimal.

The setup is really simple, and you can publish a digital product in two minutes. One inconvenience is that you cannot edit the product details after you have published it, and the only way is to duplicate the digital product.

Among a few things I liked about Gumroad is that you can customize the Call to Action button and make it sound like your brand. Once you upload the file, you can also attach communities on Gumroad, Discord, and Circle.

The pricing options are flexible, too. For example, your students can pay with installments or use the pay-what-you-want option. The checkout process is customizable. Though the main fields are about discounts, you can add additional fields for terms, checkboxes, etc.

One of the key channels you can promote your digital products on this platform is email marketing. The idea is to send a simple email to everyone who subscribed to your newsletter. But you can also automate the email communication for new students, as well as for the ones who have already made a purchase.

As for the analytics and tracking, everything is limited. You can mainly track your general sales and product views.

What users think

On G2, Gumroad has an average rating of 4.2 stars.

Gumroad users love its quick setup, zero monthly fees, and seamless digital product delivery (ebooks, courses, downloads), with many praising its intuitive interface, pay-what-you-want pricing, and embedded storefronts.

However, the 10% transaction fee (plus payment processor fees) is widely criticized as too high compared to competitors, and users note limited customization, no sales funnels/upsells, and currency conversion issues. Here is an example review.

Pricing

As you already guessed from the reviews, Gumroad charges a flat fee for each transaction. And it also depends on where the customer finds your product. If they purchase directly from your profile, the fee is 10% plus $0.50. Yet, selling on the Gumroad marketplace is not beneficial for most of the creators, as they charge 30% from sales.

In short

Gumroad is a go-to platform for creators who want a simple and fast way to start selling digital downloads without getting into a technical setup. The platform also supports community-building and email marketing, which helps you connect with your audience and automate follow-ups. However, Gumroad’s limitations in product editing, basic analytics, and lack of advanced sales features are restrictive. This platform is not for you if you need extensive customization and lower transaction fees.

SendOwl

SendOwl is a digital commerce solution built for creators, entrepreneurs, and small businesses who want to sell digital downloads, coaching services, gaming codes, or drip content.

You create your product in SendOwl, then share a direct link or embed a buy button wherever you already have an audience. When you send people your sales link, all they see is a small window with your product name, description, and the buy button.

Like on any other platform, you have to fill in the name, price, and choose a category your digital product belongs to. The platform also suggests that you add the necessary summary points, which show on your product listing page in bullet points.

When it comes to customizing the checkout process, SendOwl offers us extensive options. For example, you can

  • Adding your branding elements to the checkout pages
  • Collecting the necessary details from your buyers, besides their email addresses
  • Translating the checkout pages

And of course, what the platform is truly famous for is the customizable cart experience, with three options.

The main channels of promoting the products remain affiliate marketing, email marketing, and sending the links directly. Another way to promote is the SEO of product pages

What do other users think

SendOwl has an average rating of 4 stars on Capterra.

Users appreciate its ease of setup, affordability, and integrations with WordPress and tools like Thrive Apprentice. Key strengths include customizable checkout pages, pre-selling/drip-selling features, cart abandonment reminders, and reliable digital product delivery with download limits.

However, the reviewers also mention that the options are limited if you are a company.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, SendOwl offers three main options. However, they limit the number of products, orders, and sales for each plan. So, to be able to sell without limits, you have to pay $159/month.

In short

SendOwl works best if you already have an audience or website and just need a reliable way to deliver and monetize your products. With SendOwl, the focus is on smooth digital delivery, a highly customizable checkout experience, and promotional tools like affiliate and email marketing. You can personalize your checkout pages, collect detailed buyer info, and even use SEO to get discovered.

Where to create and sell my digital products?

There is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to the platforms you can use to deliver and sell digital products. And I hope you found what meets your business needs best. And if you did not, let’s make that decision together.

best platforms to create and sell digital products

  • Start with what you want to sell

Not all platforms support the same formats. If you want to sell digital downloads, subscriptions, print-on-demand, or bundles, platforms like Uteach, Sellfy, and Payhip offer multiple options under one roof. For simpler needs like selling files with secure delivery, DPD or SendOwl work best.

  • Make sure there is room to grow

Some platforms limit how many products or downloads you can offer unless you upgrade. If you want flexibility from the start, Uteach gives you more freedom to scale without running into caps.

  • Check how payments work

Before you commit, make sure the platform supports the payment gateways you and your customers use. Most support PayPal and Stripe, but Uteach stands out with 30+ integrations for global flexibility.

  • Decide if you want a storefront or just sales links.

If you already have a website, platforms like SendOwl, DPD, or Payhip let you embed buy buttons or use direct links. But if you need a complete storefront, Uteach us the option for you.
